Construction of an olfactory biosensor using odorant binding proteins
Project involved using molecular biology to express odorant binding proteins (OBPs) capable of detecting volatile chemicals, and conjugate these with a nanoconductor to create a platform capable of odorant recognition. The aim was to enrich the suite of manufacturing technologies at GlaxoSmithKline.
Studying the interactome of TIM23 inner mitochondrial membrane supercomplexes in Caenorhabditis elegans
My final year project involved the use of CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering techniques to tag Tim21 (subunit of the Mitochondrial TIM23 translocase) in C. elegans to enable its immunoprecipitaiton and the analysis of its interaction partners. Tim21-mRFP constructs were also assembled to determine protein localisation via fluorescence microscopy.
