I am a PhD student on the Bristol branch of the Synthetic Biology CDT. I also did my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol. I developed my laboratory experience through work experience at Adaptimmune, a biotechnology company in Oxfordshire, and 8 weeks spent in Dr Ash Toye's lab at Bristol, looking at the expression of membrane proteins in erythrocytes.
- 2017-2020: Synthetic Biology PhD, University of Bristol
- 2014-2017: Biochemistry BSc (Hons), University of Bristol
Erythrocyte membrane biology (2016)
8 week long summer internship in Dr. Ash Toye’s laboratory. My project was focused on the expression of erythrocyte membrane proteins, and their functions in the process of red blood cell development. In particular I investigated incorporating new functionality into erythrocytes using the recently published BELA2 erythroid cell lines.
Undergraduate dissertation projects (2017)
Practical project with Prof. Harry Mellor, involving the designing and building of an Arduino based protein detection system. Literature review project with Dr. Marc Van der Kamp investigating the adaptations of protein structure in acidophiles and alkaliphiles in response to extremes of pH.
Adaptimmune (2013 and 2015)
2 weeks work experience in a T-cell therapy lab, mainly focused on cell culturing and protein purification.
