Research Experience

Undergraduate Researcher, University of Liverpool - Summer 2014

I undertook a summer internship under the guidance of Dr. Mal Horsburgh in the microbiology lab at the Institute of Integrative Biology. My work involved complementation of the acetylase gene in Staphylococcus aureus. I am particularly interested in the biotechnological exploitation of heterologous protein expression.

Undergraduate Researcher, University of Liverpool - Oct 2014 - May 2015

I undertook a project entitled ‘Synthetic Engineering of Carbon Fixation Machinery’ in the Liu Lab within the Institute of Integrative Biology. I developed the synthetic expression of α-carboxysomes in E. coli, the expression of carboxysome sub complexes and fluorescently labelled carboxysomal components in order to track assembly routes of carboxysomes in E. coli.
