My background is in Molecular Plant Biology with a focus on Synthetic Biology: I feel that using our knowledge of biology to design new tools, pathways and eventually, organisms, is the most exciting aspect of bioscience, and hopefully I'll manage something of that during the course of my Dphil! As a scientist, I am interested in making tools: both biological, and computational to assist with biological design. I have been developing video games as a hobby for several years and am working on several educational games for science teaching and outreach.

2012 10 week placement in Prof. Howard Griffiths' group in the Department of Plant Sciences, Cambridge University, looking at the pyrenoid and carbon concentrating mechanism of C.reinhardtii.
2009 2 week placement in Dr. Len Stephen's group in Babraham Research Institute, looking at PI3Kinase signalling and chemotaxis in mouse neutrophils.
