Research at Oxford

Although I am partaking in taught modules offered by the DTP, I am an iCASE student, and already have a specific project defined. I am working with both the Oxford Vaccine Group and GlaxoSmithKline, on the characterization of a model system for the experimental investigation of the human germinal centre response. This work will involve isolation of specific B cell subsets from the peripheral blood, using techniques such as FACS and MACS. Next-generation sequencing will then be used to look at the immunoglobulin gene expression profiles at different time-points post-vaccination as a tool to elucidate what is happening in the germinal centres. This work will involve extensive assay optimization, as well as some software development in order to analyse the sequence data.

I enjoy all aspects of photography, and have a gallery of fine art prints for sale. These can be found at www.jakegalson.co.uk. I am also a keen cyclist, and compete in the occasional race and time-trial.
